i was just wondering if there is anyone out there that has tri care prime, we are retired military, i just found out that tri care prime does not cover the nut counseling so i have to pay out of pocket with that, so i was wondering if anyone has had it done on base? i know they have lost of different types of nutritional counseling done on base at the base gym as i have gone to one for a dibetic class a long time ago...
i have my first drs appt tomorrow and will find out for sure what this $600 out of pocket charge if for me...but i think its for the nutritional and maybe the phsy eval..

thanks for any help on this matter, it seems like there are quite a few of us on here that tri care prime.

 Hi Debby,

I don't know if anyone responded but Tricare doesn't require the nut just counseling.  You can get that accomplished through your PCM.  I argued this with my BS office and they kept saying it's a Tricare requirement...wrrong.  Tricare doesn't require anything they don't or won't pay for.

thanks for getting back with me, so far, i am getting the psy evaluation done on base, so there is no co pay or anything like that. the nut counseling is what my surgeons office requires and tri care does not pay for that so that is going to be out of pocket, i am going to my cardio and EKG tomorrow afternoon, my psy eval is next thursday...

so things are moving quickly, i will just be out of pocket the $600 but that is not too bad compared to be self pay,

thanks and keep in touch there does not seem like there are too many military on this board.
have a great day

Hi.  I paid for mine out of pocket.  I used the NUT the surgeon uses and I got that done for $85.  Tricare would not accept the on base Health and Welness Center counseling as that is not done by a licensed NUT.  The phsy eval I paid for myself also.  Call around, let them know what you need and get a good price.  I finally got it down $250.  The docs office had a $250 "administrative" charge that tricare wouldn't pay so I had to cough that up too, but it will be worth it.
