I am freaking out! Ok so this Friday is my "last" visit with PCP for the 6 months of supervised dieting and I stepped on the scale to see that I have gained 3lbs! I have been doing everything as I should be and this is the first time that I am gaining instead of losing! I am hoping this is jus****er weight and will be gone by then but did this happen to anyone else?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes. I had this issue.  I had to follow a 3-month program.  I was not required to lose weight, but I knew gaining weight would be a problem.  About 6 days before my final weigh in, I saw that I had gained 4 lbs.

I immediately went on a strict "diet" along with taking Alli pills I still had in the cupboard.  When I weighed in, I was only up 1 lb.  The doctor wasn't concerned about that at all.  He told me as long as I didn't gain significantly (5 or more lbs.), everything was ok.

This happened to me also.  I was not required to lose necessarily by my insurance (Aetna) or my surgeon's office, but during the physician supervised diet, from start to finish, I was 6 lbs heavier!!

I started my pre op diet before my last appointment because of this reason I realized I had gained 10 pounds somehow during the month before.... I dieted like crazy protein shakes and no carbs and lost all but one pound which my doctor didnt consider a gain. This time I have lost quite a bit because I just stayed on the diet very closely. I am almost concerned that maybe im losing more than I should but I am not gunna sabotage weight loss that will make me healthier during surgery.

Well I weighed exactly the same as last month (not sure how I lost those 3lbs that showed up!) BUT my personal vent is that I don't understand why we have to endure this for 6 months. If dieting worked for us than we wouldn't be opting for surgery (at least I wouldn't be).

In Mid-End of November I plan to submit for approval...My surgeon's office said they are scheduling surgeries about 4 weeks out so I will be able to get it around the first of the year if all goes well!

I am freaking out alittle bit too.....I just messaged Nan..and I see she replied to this..so thats awesome! Love her! But I have been on 3 month regimen..my last visit is on the 10th and then it goes to Aetna...but I started out at 244 - then went to 243 - then 246 - 247 - and now 249!  I am freaking out...a 5 lb weight gain?! I am just going to bare down this week..try Acai berry cleanse (not to get too personal :/) , try alittle different exercise..and hopefully I will loose weight. So...it IS possible to get approved with a little weight gain?

My Aetna nurse case manager did indicate that my weight gain may have been a factor in my first appeal denial, so I went for one more month and showed a small loss overall, and then was approved on second appeal.  However, this was just the opinion of the nurse case manager.  Also - please make sure that your six month program was a full six month- not just six visits, that seemed to stall me as well!

Good luck!

For those of you that gained weight did you gain over all months of the insurance required diet or just during the last month? Overall, I lost 14lbs it  was just the final month where I ended up being the same weight as the previous month (looked like I had gained but really had just stayed the same). I had full 6 months not 6 visits. I debate going for one more month...should I have a visit in November or just submit? I don't know if it really matters..

I think its hard to get the ins company to give you an exact answer, however, I just showed a small loss overall in the whole six months, numbers went up and down.  also, again, make sure its 6 full months, 180 days or more from first visit to last visit.  this seemed to stall my appoval, even though the doctors office didnt think it would.  good luck

Just wanted to follow up and answer my own question...YEP they approved me! My RNY is scheduled for Jan 17. Approved on the first try. Apparently they looked at my overall not just a one month gain (you know how paranoid you get with this experience!)
Good luck to all!
