DENIED - Did NOT "FAIL" Previous Weight Loss Programs - NEED HELP WITH...
I was DENIED surgery but get this, not for the typical need medically supervised weight loss program (which I have done 2 of these programs) but rather they BCN of Michigan stated that "my records do not indicate that I have failed non surgical weight loss programs". Is this crazy or what?!? Then why am I morbidly obese? True I did 2 medically supervised programs 800 calories per day and prescription diet pills and I was somewhat succesful lost 25 - 40 lbs, but not nearly enough to consider me non obese (although this would put me below the 100lbs to loose mark and likey not qualifed for surgery) BUT... I did gain all this weight back and them some. PLEASE HELP WITH APPEAL LETTERS. PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SAMPLES AND SUGGESTIONS. THANKS!!!!
I am sooo sorry! I know how frustrating it can be when the insurance companies keep changing the rules and don't bother telling us!
I am wondering if your family doc. wrote a letter in support of surg. for you? When mine wrote her letter, she specifically stated that although I had lost some weight on a number of occassions, I still remained obese and have been for the past 10 years. Did you have to submit your 5 year weight history? Again, I would think that including that - or having your family doc. include that may help. Also, include all your other health issues related to your weight. Are you diabetic? Sleep apnea? Infertility (even if you aren't planning on more kids)? joint problems? There are other reasons for the surgery aside of weightloss..... that is just an added benefit.
When I did my appeal I loaded them up with tons of paperwork- in addition to my actual appeal letter. Don't be afraid to get letters from other doctors as well as your primary. if you can get a letter from your sleep apnea doc. and a letter from a gyn. about your infertility --- together with your letter from the primary.... you are making a great case your all the other conditions you have in addition to the obesity.
I hope that helps!
Good luck and keep us posted.
