Hello everyone! My insurance does not cover weight loss surgery, so I am a self-payer. I know it can be personal, but if you can share, how did you pay for your surgery? Payment plans? Loans? Money gifts? Anything will help! I am just trying to gather ideas for what I am going to do to get my weight loss surgery! Thanks everyone!!

On the fence about self-pay options and if Mexico is the right choice (or scared of that option)? Let my experience (first time ever in Mexico) be your guide. Don't let fear hold you back!

I'm in a similar situation.  Hoping people post ideas to help.  Also do you know how much the surgery will cost?

I just found out last week, that my insurance plan changes that were made in January excluded ALL bariatric surgery procedures so I'm looking for ways to pay for the surgery my self.  Around this area, surgery cost for self payers (upfront, of course) is averaging between 16 to 20K.

Where in the world can I find that kind of money?!

I'm also looking for ideas.  I just had my evaluation appointment yesterday, and self-pay for the whole thing is just over 27K.

I applied for a loan with Care Credit online and was approved immediately. I'll be making monthly payments for the next 5 years, but I sure won't mind. I won't feel too much of a pinch because I'll be saving on other things. And since it's for medical reasons, I do believe it's going to be tax deductible! Best part of all was that they didn't say NO like the insurance company did! That made me smile!

If you want something badly enough, you can make it happen.

Hugs!

I am also thinking of taking out a Care Creditloan. Do you mind me asking appox. how much your payments will be a month??

Have you ever consider traveling to Costa Rica or Mexico for surgery? The savings can be upwards of 50% and many medical tourism companies offer financing.
