I have been "ghostriding" on this website for about two weeks now, reading the forums and trying to collect as much advice or info from users posts. I see how everyone on here is so open and willing to share advice, so here goes.. I am a 24 year old female and has recently decided to have weight loss surgery. 263lb and 5'0-5'1 so Im calculating my BMI around 50 to 51. Now I have group insurance under Keystone Health Plan east HMO. If anyone is familiar with this insurance or has used it for themselves then please fill me in on what i can expect. Also I have picked a surgeon and will meet with him on the 29th of June (SO EXCITED) can anyone tell me what to expect and what happens at the intial visit. I do not have any co-morbalities that I know of but I have been hospitalized for my asthma on numerous occasions. Also does anyone know if KHPE requires 3mth or 6mth supervised diet. and can this be completed with my bariatric surgeon or does it have tobe my PCP I ask becasue my PCP and I never seem to be able to meet. everytime I go to the dr office there is always someone else there and he is basically a new doctor and really doesnt seem too involved in my care. I know I should be looking for another PCP but cannot obtained appts with anyone that has been recommended. I am sorry for asking for such basic info but I am so new to WLS and this site is my only lifeline Im sure you all know the feeling. THANKS

Any Dr. that is recording, watching your weight will do.  You will have to check with your insurance plan on the exact diet requirements (if there are any).  Your surgeon will help you with this, but do not rely on them alone.

Also, if your BMI => 50, I strongly suggest you evaluate your surgery options.  There are a number of different surgeries out there, and weight loss on the band is not as effective as other surgeries (Sleeve, RNY, DS).

Do you research and take your time.  It will pay off in the end.
