Help Please!  I finally got my surgery date and the final cost of my unpaid balance.  Because of the economy, my doctors and the hospital want everything to be paid for BEFORE the surgery.  Does anyone have a clue where to start looking for $4000?

Do you have a credit card you could put it on?

I hope you figure it out so you can get your surgery.

Ask you surgeon's office if they are associated with any medical credit companies.  My dentist has such.  They usually are HIGH interest, but it may be worth it to you at this point.

Thank you both for your help.  I do not have credit cards (and am glad sometimes) and I will ask the doctors office about the financial help.  Have a great day and again . . .  thank you!

Many employer sponsored 401K programs provided a Hardship withdrawl option -- this can be used for a number of things including medical bills that are not covered by insurance. (There is an early withdrawl penalty)   Some 401K plans also offer a loan program - so you can borrow from yourself.  I am not sure what your situation is -- but that is how I am planning on paying any uncovered costs.

Keep in mind, while this is an option, hardship withdrawals are very expensive. With IRS penalties and taxes, you will only get to keep 55-65% of what you withdraw.  So to get $5k, you'll need to take out around 9.
