I had my lap band 2 years ago, did great the first year but have been having trouble for the last 10-12 months.  I paid cash 2 years ago for the Lap Band because I was uninsured and now I have Aetna. Has anybody ever had experiences with having a new of different insurance at the time that a revision is needed?  Any info would be appreciated, not sure what revision surgery I will go with yet.

You have to check with Aetna as it all depends on your particular policy.  If it is included, they should assist.  If not, you are on your own.

I paid for my Band also 2 yrs ago and now have BCBSof TX and they are paying for my revision ......You need to see if you have WLS coverage on your plan. Good luck

I am in the same boat as you are.  My insurance paid for my Lap Band about 4 1/2 yrs ago and now I need a revision.  My insurance now does not cover any WLS.  I am wondering though if it is a complication if they will cover it?

You may be able to get the insurance company to pay to remove it, but revisions, band replacement, etc. are completely out of the question.

It really depends on if you have WLS benefits or not and if you meet the criteria (BMI of 35 with co-morbids or 40 with or without co-morbids). You'll likely have to go through the entire process as though you have never had surgery to begin with.
