Physician-Supervised weight loss program

I r'cd a packet from the insurance company that states that I "have to complete a physician-supervised weight loss program within two years of surgery"

Did anyone else have to do this and what satisfies this requirement?  Though I talk to my gp at every visit about weight loss and excercise I am not sure that qualifies and "physician supervised"

I would like to point out that it states nothing about this in my insurance policy regarding WLS...

I have United HealthCare if that helps.

Thanks!

OK so I was digging around on the boards and it sounds like if you have UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus you don't have to worry about the diet.   I am super relieved I will keep searching I have my phone meeting with WLC on Monday and ins on Tuesday I just don't want to delay this surgey any longer than I have too!

I was told by me surgeon's office that since I had United that I would have to have the 6 months of supervised weight loss.  I called United twice and asked if that was in my policy and both times I was told no, it wasn't.  So, I told my surgeons office and even though she didn't really want to because she didn't think it would get approved I had her turn in my paperwork and insurance approved it within a week, so I think it's up to your insurance company and your policy.  I would call to find out for sure.  Hope this helps!

I have UHC Choice Plus too. I talked to my claims dept about my requirements (this specifically) and they said it wasn't written anywhere in my policy. Then I talked to the nurse and she said that I did, which sorta pissed me off. I plan on bringing it up to the surgeon when I meet with him. For now Im going with what UHC says, since they will be approving/denying it.
