Hi all, i can't remember if it was here or another board that someone posted that their bloodwork show a def. in vit d. and b12. and that was reason for their ins to let them get the vsg insteed of the rny. i know my vit d is low and hope this will allow me to get the sleeve insteed of the rny.

if anybody knows where i can find that thread or has any info on the matter would you please re-post.

It is estimated that 90% of the US population is low on Vit D. It's worse in obese folks. You just sit out in the sun for 20 minutes daily or go to Walgreens and buy Vit D. I can't believe an ins co would allow that for a sleeve unless there is a medical reason you are not absorbing supplements. As for the sleeve and B12... the sleeve can actually cause a B12 deficiency so there is no way that one will fly.

I don't blame you for wanting a sleeve but I'd be trying to find something else to use for an appeal.

wow, why do i pay my endo. when all i have to do is ask you. I take prescription vit d. and get plenty of sun, yet i can't get my levels to normal. i know I've read somewhere that with vit def. RNY is not recommended.

Most people are deficient in Vit D.  Most docs give the wrong type of Vit D to get levels up.  Probably  99% of obese folks are D deficient.  About 90% of the rest of the population is D deficient.

I'm not your enemy here, the ins co is and the sarcasm is unnecessary.  I'm telling you that Vit D deficiency is not a reason any ins co is going to approve you for the surgery type that you want.  I stand behind my suggestion to find another reason for an appeal so you don't waste your appeals.  Many times you have a limit on the number of times you can appeal.  You can waste them on something that isn't going to work or find another avenue so you can get what you want.

I didn't want bypass either, I have a sleeve.  I totally get it.  But being snarky isn't going to get you the info you are looking for.
