 Hi,

I have my app't with my bariatric surgeon on Monday.  I'm getting excited, nervous about the insurance aspect tho.  My BMI is about 38.  I had sleep study last week, and I do NOT have sleep apnea.  I spoke with BCBS today to see what I needed to do, etc. and they just said that there is not a specific "number" of co-mobidities, but that the surgeon will submit my records and they will decide.  I have dieted my whole life, have migraines, hypothyroid, plantar fasciitis, atrial fib, and my doctor wrote down high blood pressure when I was in the hospital last month for the new onset of atrial fib.  I don't want to get my hopes up for surgery - I am like everyone else - just want to know asap if I'll be approved.

Thanks!  Also - for those of you who have basic option approx. how much was your out-of-pocket expense.  I am going to a "center of excellence" for my surgeon.  Sorry I keep posting about insurance stuff - just becoming obsessed about it!  lol

Hey there!  I'm just now begining my journey with all of this and I think I'm in the same boat as you are... I have BCBS Federal - Basic and I'm going to see my dr on Wednesday.
My BMI is 39.9, and I have no idea what they will do with that.  (i'm thinking about drinking alot of water before my weigh-in)
If I find anything out about our insurance, I'll be sure and re-post.  Will you do the same?

Thanks
Nic

 Hi,
This sounds dumb, but I was too sick yesterday to go to doctor!  Anyway - I had been to cardiologist this past Friday, he does not advise that I have it.  He also said I have NO co-mobidities.  He said my labs are excellent, he took me off my heart medicine, etc.  So, I am giving it another try on my own.

I may still reschedule and see the surgeon after I get over this cold/flu that I have.

Thanks & good luck!

 Hi,

How did your app't go with insurance.  My app't was rescheduled for 3-1.  My cardiologist said I do not have any "co-mobidities".    I do have migraines, had heart rhythm problem in December, hypothyroid, plantar fasciitis.  Don't know what else I may need???

The problem is that your comorbidities aren't really weight related.  Losing weight isn't going to fix any of them.

You need something such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes,.... something that is caused by weight and will be resolved by weight loss.

 Hi,

Well I meet with surgeon on Monday.  I am hoping I have mis-calculated my BMI and wlll be approved.  I think it is still beneficial to go to app't as maybe they have other suggestions if I am not approved for surgery.

Thanks!
