New here - getting hung up on co-mobids - Fed BCBS-Basic
Hi,
I am new here. I have meeting with surgeon 2-1. My BMI is about 38, I'm 52 yrs old. I am getting really anxious on whether or not I will be approved. I am currently on medication for atrial fib (irregular heart rhythm), have migraines, plantar fasciitis, hypothyroid. I had a sleep study last night so will see if I have sleep apnea. I think I could also have arthritis, but have never really been diagnosed, but at times my hips, knees are extremely stiff. When I was in the hospital last month with the a-fib, on my discharge papers my doctor wrote hypertension, but I've never been diagnosed with that before.
I am hoping everything will go smooth and that I will be approved the first time. Any words of advice on what I need to do to help facilitate the approval?
Thank you.

I also have Fed BCBS Basic and I believe there weight loss surgery requirement is a BMI of 40 or more. However, if you have hypertension that should qualify you for weight loss surgery with a BMI of 38 and one co-morbid condition. Most insurance companies require a BMI of 40 with no co-morbid conditions to qualify for weight loss surgery.
If they wrote hypertension on your discharge papers I would get that checked out and get on any meds that are needed for high blood pressure. Once they see you are taking meds for the high blood pressure that should help things along. Even if you are not on meds for it, I would get it diagnosed and make sure your doctor notates your medical records with that diagnosis. Good luck to you!
