I just got off the phone with a very nice woman at BSBCAlabama... this is where she sent me to get the information on Bariatric Surgery. She also gave me the fax number for their Medical Review Division.

Soooo... after spending the morning crying... I am resigned to the fact that I have to start over with my medically supervised diet due to BCBS policy. I cannot use the 6 months that I had with the nutritionist affiliated with my surgeon because that is against BCBS Alabama policy.

So who have you been seeing over the last few months for your weight loss documentation.  I have been seeing my PCP and she has been filling out the form that my Surgeon has sent.  It has a place for her to put in program I have been following and nutrition info  and also I am suppose to be exercising.  I called the insurance clerk at my surgeons office and she said to continue to have this formed filled out as they have done many surgeries with BCBS of Alabama as the insurer.  I called them after I had read about  your troubles.  I have also been attending support groups, not sure if that is going to help.  Please let me know who has been documenting your weight loss over that past few months.....has it been your PCP??

Keep in mind that each BCBS of Alabama may have a different Group number based on your deductable, the fax number that the rep. gave me for the medical review board is:

Thanks for this information. I have BCBS of Aabama and I have been told they are a tough insurance company to deal with. I have 2 months (after this one) of the medical weighs in. I have been going to my medical Dr.  The PA or the NP has been seeing me each time. I sent the form I made up to my surgeons insurance clerk. She assured me the way it was filed out would be fine.  ANother issue I have is know none medical problems. I am 5'4 with a BMI of 47. I just turned 50 and I know if I don't get a control of my eating, I will develope problems.
