How do I expedite approval before the new year?

Okay, so I have met with a surgeon that I absolutely adore, am working on getting my letter of medical necessity, have my psych eval on December 2nd and I just found out yesterday that as of January 1st my insurance will no longer cover bariatric services at 100%!  Instead my coverage will be at 50%.  With that being the case, if my surgery is scheduled for after the new year, I won't be able to have it since I cannot cover 50% of WLS!  I called the clinical coordinator for my surgeon and she said that my insurance company, Blue Care Network (Michigan), can take up to 30 days to approve the surgery.  So since my psych eval is on the 2nd, even if I got my paperwork submitted right away, they very well could not approve me until after the new year!  This is such a huge disappointment.  My insurance coverage hasn't changed in the last 5 years and now when I need something...

If anyone has helpful tips on expediting my approval I would really appreciate it. 

 I am not sure that your date of approval matters. Its the date of service that they will go by. So even if you are approved in december, if surgery is in january it is likely that you will be covered under the policy as it is stated at the time services are rendered.

Did your get any answers?  I can't get my surgeon's office to get on it for me.  I have done psych eval, nutritionist stuff, blood work, stress test, have pcp letter of need, want to use ww records for 6 months supervised diet effort -can't get the insurance coordinator to do anything for me-she is not helpful.  I called insurance co. today and they said they would take the ww.  but insurance eprson does not want to submit it!! don't know what to do.  I am calling the surgeon's office again on Monday- It's been 2 weeks since I gave her the ww info.

No answers just yet.  My psych eval is on December 1st and the psychologist said that she will have the report for me the very next day since I am in a rush.  I am hoping that I will get my letter of medical necessity on Tuesday.  I will then fax everything to the surgeon's clinical coordinator and then she can submit it to my insurance.  I hope the insurance company doesn't take the full 30 days.  I will keep you updated!

My surgery is scheduled for 12/28/2009!  I can't believe that I got it in under the wire!!!  I am sooo excited.  BCN didn't take long at all for the approval.  I had my approval in 8 business days.
