How long did it take to get an answer from OPM on your appeal? - VSG

I was denied from BCBS Federal, for my VSG.  I was going to leave it at that.   Then I decided to go one more step and that is to appeal with the Office of Personnel Management.  Just wondering did it take more than 90 days to hear from them?  Did you win?

OPM has 60 days from the date they recieve the appeal as stated in your benefit plan brochure and they usually try to respond with a denial upheld or favorable decision pretty quick but they technically have up to 60 days

I just switched to BCBS federal in order to get the VSG.  (SAMBA denied me).  Did they give you a reason for the denial?  I will be devistated if I don't get the greenlight come January!  Best of luck on the appeal, will be watching for your update.

Hi
I have fed bcbs. Do not be devistated regardless of outcome. I am in the middle of of a denial and am pretty certain they will come thru for me! I was prepared for the denial and worked almost a year preparing the document with hundreds of hours invested when they denied me. It is no longer investagative it has been widely used for several years with outstanding results stand alone and part of a 2 part process. Furthermore I have several case studies strictly on vsgs! I have seen questionaires recently asking for replies asking if anyone has had to pay out of pocket for the vsg,I suspect a class action suit against fed bcbs for withholding treatment is in the wings and they may know it  especially since other agencies are now starting to approve it. When my request was denied  I was told two weeks earlier they had approved someone else using the same code same insurance same doctor! Investigative my ear!
Well don't give up it will not be long now....the bad thing is they are so slow.
More to come.

Do keep us posted - if they deny me in January I will certainly appeal.  I have been waiting years for this and even though I didn't fight with CIGNA, I won't let the federal insurers off the hook so easily next time around.  Good luck!
