BCBS-MI Appeal Letter Help
Hi All,
I---almost, not quite---meet the BCBS criteria for surgery coverage. I want to try to make some arguments to convince them that they should cover my surgery.
I am trying to put together long-term health care costs if I don't get the surgery and argue that I am a borderline sleep apnea candidate.
I am also a cancer survivor and want to argue the relationship between obesity and cancer and the increased risk of re-occurrence.
Any other suggestions? Any success stories of appeal letters out there?
All help welcome.
thanks,
d

Hi,
Thanks for your inquiry. I got comments and support. I think perhaps I'm not going to find the answers I'm hoping for---that being that I could persuade BCBS to approve/pay for my surgery even though I don't meet their minimum requirements of 100 pounds over or a BMI of 40, OR a BMI
of 35-40 with two co-morbidities.
My BMI is 38 with one co-morbidity. Since I had cancer last year and have about a 50% chance of it returning, I'm hoping to make an argument related to the research on obesity and cancer that it will help to reduce my risk. I'm just going to have to try it and see.
