Filing your own appeal...
Has anyone filed their own appeal?
I was denied by my insurance two weeks ago. They say they sent the denial letter on 10/22 and my surgeon's office and I have not received it yet. My surgeon's office say they won't do the appeal without a denial letter in hand.
Two different ladies with UHC (insurance) told me that I don't have to wait for the appeal letter. They told me to send a cover letter referencing my information and the reason for the denial (lack of 6 month diet supervised by phyisician) which I do have and was not sent in to the insurance company with the original paperwork. The cover letter along with the medical records for each month of diet and exercise should suffice for the insurance to overturn their denial and approve my surgery.
The ladies also stated that I could appeal myself, the surgeon's office don't have to be the ones to appeal, if I have my medical records (which I do).
Has anyone been successful sending their own appeal and faxing their own medical records to United Healthcare and had their denial overturned?
What would you do?
The insurance company requested new letters to be sent out but I don't want to sit around another two weeks for them to arrive.

RNY on 12/27/17
Is there anyway that your doctor could send in a corrected claim to UHC with your letter and medical records.
Usually doctors turn in your medical records to the insurance company for approval.
Which surgery are you going to have RNY, Lap Band, VSG, DS?
That is what I did when Federal BCBS denied my claim because of the cpt code. My doc turned in a corrected claim. Then the claim was approved. Not all the amount I asked for but for some.
The reason why I say not for the amount I wanted, is because I paid cash for the VSG surgery and then my doc turned in the claim for me.
I wish you the best!!!
blessings to you!!!
