Several referrals to this forum!! Crohns and VSG with MEDICA

Does ANYONE have info on Medica Passport insurance and the VSG?

I was approved for RNY but 48 hours before my surgery (I was scheduled for 10-05-09), I was cancelled because my test came back that I have Crohns Disease.

Due to the forgeign body issues with Crohns, all research says only the VSG will work for me. 

Medica says its "investgational" and says its denied per my member booklet. 

Has ANYONE on here gotten the VSG with Medica insurance?

It is my understanding that sometimes insurance companies that don't normally cover VSG will make an exception if there is some reason RNY will not work for you.  Like, I read somewhere about people who have to take NSAIDS regularly getting the sleeve approved, since they could not have RNY due to needing to be able to take NSAIDS.  Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read that.  But I would try providing your insurance company with documentation of why you can't have  RNY since you have Crohns and appealing their decision.

Puuuur-fect!  I actually emailed my insurance company and was emailed back that my Dr needs to write a letter requesting the VSG and why.  They also gave me the appeal address, phone, etc if i need it.  They also gave me the phone number to the Mn board of commissioners incase I want to file a complaint.

Tje man was so helpful AND I have it all in writing! 

I see my surgeon at 3:45 today to discuss all of it.
