Hi ~  new to the insurance board ~  I work at a church and I have Highmark BCBS.   I check beforehand, they will cover LapBand, which I am doing.  I had hoops to jump through, which I did.  When the paperwork was sent to insurance we were told that it would be 30 days.  I began calling a week after the fax was sent and two weeks after.  The surgeon's insurance office began calling at that time, too.  We were both told that it would be 30 days.  So, 30 days comes and goes and I call back.  Now, I'm told that it could be 35 to 40 days.  This Thursday will be 40 days.  Has anyone heard of this?  I'm really starting to lose hope here.  At this point, I wish I would just hear something!

thanks,
Sue

ETA:  I just got the call that I have been approved!  All I had to do was whine a little!  JK  I'm so happy!

keep calling!!! Don't give up or lose hope :)
I talked to my dr's office yesterday because Im' going to have everyhthing ready to submit come Oct 5ht. My dr's office told me that they will just keep stringing things along since they really dont want to have to pay for it. That being said it sounds like that is what they are doing to you... Next time you call (I would do this now) I would call and ask for it in writting on how long it will take to get a reply. I would inform that 30 days has passed as has 35 and soon 40. It should be in writinng in your contract somwhere... I'd start to call every single day, maybe even twice a day, be nice, but ask of the status... Pressure them... You did what they wanted now time for htem to follow through on their end :)

Good luck :) It will all work out :)

CONGRATS!  I saw your post on the Lap Band board - didn't realize you have Highmark BCBS.  That's what I have.  I submitted my paperwork Friday.  They told me 14 days...and I was dreading waiting that long!!!  I know that had to be a long 39 days for you.  Glad it's over for you.  Good luck!!

Thanks!  Did you have to do 6 months of supervised diet?

Yes.  Started it in March & last visit was September.

Did you see the nutritionist the entire 6 months?  The nutritionist told me she required 3 visits.  Hope it's enough.

I could have seen either my PCP with Weigh****chers or a nutritionist for 6 mo.  I saw my PCP and did WW from Feb. '09 to Juy '09.

Good Luck!

Oh. Mine plan specifically said to be seen by a nutritionist or dietician.  Hope it all goes through!

Glad you were approved.

I have Highmark BS insurance.  I started my PCP visits 08/18/09 - I'm figuring I'll have to go until February 2010 - then I'll be able to submit the paper work.
