I am in CA the plansmy company offers are Kaiser, HealthNet, Anthem BC PPO or HMO.  right now I have he Anthem HMO and it covers 70% only at a Center of excellence. I have heard the Kaiser covers many types of surgeries and covers the surgeries in full.  I guess that may be dependent on your coverage.

I don't think I can afford 30%.  kaiser would not be my favorite option mainly because it is not conveniently located, but that i can deal with if the surgery is covered.

I guess I am looking for adivice on what to look for if when selecting an insurance plan as it relates to WLS.  I know there is also actually getting approved which is another thing to consider.

I think I have about month and half before open enrollemnt but I want to do some work beforehand.

thanks for any guidence.

hi,
I dont know it this will help but last year during my open enrollment I switched to Kaiser. I am not sure if Kaiser up there requires this but Kasier so cal requires you to attend the Options classes. There is quite a long waiting list here for the classes and the classes are 20 weeks. With my Kasier I am only required to pay a $100 copay for the hospital. I called to check it out. I believe that once I get a  surgery date it will be about a year from the beginning of this whole process. Just something to think about too.

Yeah I heard other mention that about Kaiser as well so before you jump into anything makes use you got the requirements for each of your options.  You might want to do a post gathering information about each of your options and the requirements others had to meet like 6 months supervised diet or for Kasier the options class.  It also depends on how long you plan on waiting as well.  But you have a lot to think about and you need to know all the details before you make a choice because once you have selected it there is no going bac****il next open enrollment and then the next January before it starts.
