Questions about calling insurance co for status

My sister in law is waiting approval from the insurance co.   Its been almost 2 weeks, and no word yet.  When should she try to call them to check on the status.   Also, which department does she ask to speak to?   Thanks in advance.

When she calls custome service just tell them she is trying to check status for a pre certification to see if it is approved. they will prob ask where procedure preformed give the hosp name. They willtell you the rest. she can then ask if they are needing anything else as well.

Legally  the insurance company has 30 days to respond so tell your sister-in-law it's well worth the wait. I am about to enter that process now and I'm going to try not to think about my approval ever minute of every day. Make sure she leaves some room for me on the losers bench.

The second poster is correct that the insur company has 30 days to make their decision.  However, your SIL can call customer service to verify they have received her records that her surgeon submitted.  My insurance company never had an answer for me, only that records were received and gone to "review".....another dept that can't be reached for status inquiry.
