typical time frame for insurance to contact after it's been submitted?

I feel like this process just goes on and on!  I am happy it's taking a while because I've been able to get off of caffeine and carbonation all together.  Woo Hoo  I've been diet coke free for 7 weeks now.  It's insane!!  I've also started all the vitamins and have my system in place.  I've also changed my diet to include more protein and have found a smoothie that is to die for.  I've also had four meetings with the psychologist.  I just found out that my medical necessity letter has been submitted to my insurance company, United HealthCare.  When we hear back then they set up the meeting with the surgeon and the surgery is like 6 weeks after that meeting.  so, how long does it typically take insurance to respond???  Thanks for the info.  I love coming out to this board and following your stories.  It's very heartwarming and inspiring!

I was lucky....my insurance made the decision the same day they received the approval packet.  I've heard other can take like 4 weeks or so.  It just depends on your insurance really.  I was told at my surgeons office that after they send off the packet, you're usually scheduled for surgery within 6-8 weeks.

thanks!  I know they'll all be different...I just wondered what was the average.  Same day!!!  That's awesome.  I did get a letter from my surgeons team yesterday asking me to schedule my pulmonary and cardiac evaluations.  I think after that I only have two things left before surgery.  Of course, if insurance denies (which I really doubt they will since I've met and/or exceeded all criteria) I'll just have to start with the appeal process!  Thanks again!!

Hi there!

I have BCBS of IL. It only took about 3 days for approval. I thought it would take about 2-4 weeks.

I think that is the standard time they will tell you.

Also, try calling everyday like I did! I think  They write a progress log each and everytime you call, so maybe that speeds up the process.

Hope that helps.
