CIGNA--Bariatric Certified Hospital
Okay, I' m confused. The Cigna website says bariatric surgery is approved on my plan. But the recommend a center of excellence, but require a certfied bariatric hospital. One list they have says my provider (UNC Hospital) is certified bariatric hospital and one list does not. How do I sort through the mess. The customer service folks at Cigna cannot tell me either...
Any insurance pros or people experienced with Cigna have any input?

Okay, I did a little research I did not see anything on UNC hospital website that states they are a center of excellence. I googled centers of excellence and they are not on the website. I also went to my insurance and looked for centers that are deemed centers of excellence for NC did not show UNC hospital at all. www.surgicalreview.org I did find Durham regional Hospital and Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery www.dukehealth.org there are a few others for NC but since UNC has same 919 prefix I thought I would give you this.

Hey I have Cigna, and thus far they have been pretty great, then again I have yet to submit anything for approval...
I read read read and read that thing about the benifits for bariatric surgery a million times, then I called, the first lady told me I was covered up to 10,000 of the prenegoiated price so I was stressing, then I call the hospital i call the dr I want to use, I called everyone I could to find what they charged and knew i stilll was missing things like tests that had to be done. I then called them back to ask more questions and was told that the first girl I talked to was way wrong and only the Dr's fee's are what have a limit.... that doesn't o**** anything else and they cover the rest... Phew... So my plan is to call them again tomorrow to double check ebfore I see my PCP Monday...
Here is my question for you, have you started anything yet? like the 6months? I'm so stressed out that they are going to give me a hard time.
I would call them... they are 24 hour and if they cannot give you the answer as for a boss and then his boss and so on... at some point you will get someone to tell you... Keep going up the chain until you get the answer and if there isn't one that ask where they want you to go... I'm going to call tomorrow to push more and more and more aboutthe 6 month thing and if they will take my high LDL as a comorbid...
Good luck... and remeber if they say I'm not sure say oh well can I talk to your boss so I do know if you dont, and then keep on going baby...
