Who to ask to speak to at insurance co. to get them to speed up the process?

I posted earlier about my RNYbeing scheduled in just 7 days, and I haven't received approval from Aetna.  I'm not having any luck w/the 'front line' of customer service.

Does anyone know the ins and outs of insurance and know who I should ask to speak to?  Or should I just wait and hope?  I hate just sitting here, not even preparing for what could be major surgery in 7 days!

Any help--much appreciated.  I pay SOOOO much for my insurance and would just like an answer.  Thanks.

In all honesty, there's probably not much you can do to speed up the process.

Call them Monday morning and ask to speak to a supervisor about your case status.

Worst case scenario, you may have to reschedule the surgery.

Good luck!

The insurance company usually has 30 days to provide you with a decision. They take their time because they can. I don't think speaking with anyone higher up the chain will help. Just keep calling them and pestering them, sometimes that works.

Do not speak to a claims representative; they aren't the decision-makers and all they do is read the notes on your case that they're allowed to read (and sometimes they don't even do that right).  I always bypass the claims representative option, and ask to speak with Care Coordination, which is UHC's pre-certification department.  If you have a different insurance, just ask to be connected to the department that handles pre-certification requests and also ask for the direct number so you can bypass the claims reps in the future.
