For anyone who as Aetna insurance...

How long did it take you to receive approval after your paperwork was submitted?  I'm sure it's going to vary, but I'm trying to get an average so I know what to expect.

Have youi already done the 3 month or 6 month diet?

My surgeon requested authorization and they sent something back about the 3 month multi-disciplinary diet or 6 month diet and 5 years of my weight history.

I'm currently doing the 3 month regimen.  My last NUT visit will be in August.  I'm just trying to get a general idea of how long it usually takes.  I'll be going back to school August 20th, so I'm trying to figure out how this will work into my schedule.

I had a very bad experience with them.  After three years of being denied over and over again I dropped them and switched to healthnet and was approved within the 1st month of having them.

So good luck!

Would you be willing to elaborate?  Im ending my three months and paperwork will be submitted at the end of July.  I want to know what snags could hold things up.

They kept denying me for either not enough medical history even though I sent them my medical records for 5 years straight and then threw in some extra records to show I have had a weight problem forover 10 years.   I was denied twice because they said the information documented by doctor for the supervised diet was too vague or that there wasnt enough information.  They made me do the 6 month diet 3 times.  Then I was denied because I didnt have all the classes done even though I sent them all the paperwork showing that I had done them.  They either have complete morons running the department my file was going to or they just love to screw with people until they just give up all hopes of getting approved.

My surgeons office strongly urged me to drop them because they were being so difficult.

I had the same problem with Aetna in 05.  They denied me for not enough specific documentation by my PCP.  I had at that time 5 years worth of weight history, attempted diets and weigh****chers documents.  I'm not on EmblemHealth and hoping the process will be easier for approval.

Sorry to hear of everyone's bad experiences with Aetna.  I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that everything goes good!

I had a great experience with Aetna. Paper work was submitted on Tuesday, verbal approval on Thursday and had the official letter the next week. I did the 3 month regimen and have a detailed list of what I did, as well as copies of the letters I drafted and had my PCP sign. I am willing to share the info if anyone needs it. Just send me a PM with your email addy. :)
