Really upset over six month diet start over
My PCP, of the past five years, has left the clinic I use. I've been doing the three month diet with him and was three months in.
Today when I went for my fourth weigh in I saw a "float" doctor, since they haven't filled his position yet.
She apparently doesn't like people getting WLS and feels I should start over with a nutritionist to see if I can lose weight that way thus avoiding surgery.
I tried to explain that I'm already half way through this diet and going to the nutritionist would probably start this all over again and I would have three more months of waiting, that I have dieted hundreds of times and just got fatter over the years, etc.
She sort of cut me off and said that another three months would be just that much longer to lose weight so I can avoid the surgery.
I'm so frustrated I could cry. My original PCP and my psychiatrist thought/think the surgery would improve my quality of life. (Their words.)
Do any of you think this is going to hurt my chances with the insurance company approving surgery? Are they going to want an OK from this doctor, whom I probably won't ever see again?
Would having to see a different doctor during the diet have negated the first months and set me back anyway?
Thanks

Why couldn't you find another doctor and pick up where you left off on the 6 month diet?
I switched PCP's after the first two months of supervised diet because my doctor was not supportive. It doesn't matter as long as you have a doctor that will keep good notes of your attempts.
Pick someone and schedule the appointment asap.
Does your surgeon's office have a nutritionist on staff? My other option was to complete my six month requirement through the weight management center by seeing the nut once a month for 6 visits.

I had my second doctor write the letter of medical necessity for me. I just made sure I had the physicians notes from the first two visits with her so I could add them to his file.
I would suggest getting copies of the notes from the visits you've already completed and keep them in a file. The receptionist or nurse can do that for you. Give a copy to your new doctor.
Yes, it's a major pain. I went through this same thing last fall.

Hang in there honey! I would just keep going with your weigh in's and monthly appointments. When it comes down to submitting your information on your diet, you will have it in black and white whether or not the "stand in" doc agrees on surgery or not. It is not her choice on what you do with your body....it is yours and she should respect that. Keep your head up high and do NOT let this stand in doc deter you from your goals!
