Level 2 Denial Upheld for VSG

Not like I didn't know it was coming, but BCBS Personal Choice of PA upheld the original denial for VSG based on investigational surgery. Ewh, well at least things are moving. Now I will call my doctor in the am who won't do anything until he receives a letter from the insurance co, but once he gets it, he will have a review with an "independent" doctor that BCBS brings in and my doctor and I will have 15 min to present a case to see if it can be overturned one last time. I honestly can't see how this is going to work because of the surgeries that my doctor does. I have a feeling that I will probably get the strong talk about RNY at this point.
I'll be honest, it is not my #1 choice for WLS, but with the health issues nagging at me everyday, I just really want to get this ball moving and have surgery so I can hopefully start feeling better. My knees, my back, the shortness of breath, being able to tie a shoe, helping with (hopefully some relief but not guaranteed) my fibro, just everything, I think I will be a VSG girl at heart but with a RNY tummy.

I know I will be successful in what ever weight loss surgery I have!!!

Sorry to hear that because I feel the same way right now! People can call me weak if they like but if I don't get a yes this second go around, then RNY here I come. My back is killing me and the need to lose more than 40 lbs is even worse. Good luck with your journey!

I'd rather have VSG, but I just don't want to fight any more. I'm having another consultation with another surgeon to discuss my options. Blue Shield of CA denied my request for DS because my BMI is under 50 (48.3) and the surgeon is not part of the county network (patient must reside in the same county as the surgeon's practice.)

I have lupus and fibromyalgia and the weight MUST come off. My leg,no, the entire lowr right side of my body is numb. I have shortness of breath and joint pain. I'm at wits end and don't know what to do anymore.

I wish you the best.
