1st PCP visit... A little confused.
Okay so I had the 1st appointment with my primary doctor today. I told her I wanted to have the lap-band surgery. She took down all my measurements, and asked me a few questions and sent me on my way. She said she would send it in to my insurance. (I'm Tricare Prime) I'm confused a little. I thought I would have to see a nutritionist, and another test before it went to my insurance for approval. I should have said something, but I was stuck in a whorl wind... Am I missing something? I just want to get this all right the 1st time.
Also I have heard a million different things about my insurance. I don't have any co's but I am over the 200% they refer to on the metlife chart... is that all I need to be to get an approval?
Thanks everyone!

She's most likely getting a referral to the surgeon approved for you, not the actual surgery. That's what the surgeons office does. Tricare is fairly easy when getting approved for WLS. I got mine approved in about two weeks after I seen a nurse(first consult) at the surgeons office. I do not have any co-moridities as well.
At your first appointment at the surgeons office they'll take down information, ask you what diets you've tried how long you've been overweight and so on. Good luck =)

lol Those were my thoughts exactly, I got approved in the middle of February, had an anticipated Surgery date of April 1st but didn't carry on with it because my husband had a 3 week TDY in March, then a 3 week TDY again in April. So now I'm finishing up the requirements. Psychologist at the surgeons office wants me to establish a relationship with a psychologist here on base before I go any further. Sigh! ( I need to get a referral from my PCM for mental health first and that could take a month)
Hopefully it goes as smoothas possible for you!
