Heads up on UCH United Health Care
those applying for lapband, they are denying required for inpatient stays for lapband and are only allow outpatient. Most surgeons do not do outpatient, so if you run in to that problems sit tight cause I know for a fact all Bariatric Centers are running into t his problem but feel comfortable it will get resolved
Interesting....back in November, I went for a consult with a surgeon. Before I had even agreed to proceed with it - they submitted to my insurance (UHC). I was shocked when I got a letter (and call) stating I was approved. I did not have a great feeling with this surgeon, so I wanted to talk to another one. Well I found one and have an appt in a couple weeks, but in the meantime, a friend of mine went to see this Dr (the one I'll be going to), and she has the same insurance, and she was told that they require a 6 month medically supervised diet. I didn't have that before and I was approved - I wonder if it has to do with the fact that this doctor requires you to stay overnight in hospital? Would they tell us that up front, or is it possible I'd go through the 6 month supervised diet, only to be denied because this Doc requires an overnight stay? The first surgeon did it as an outpatient, but I did not get a great feeling....felt very used car salesman like.
Not a lot a all actually, I do know that when you are denied for medical reasons, you have the right to appeal any denials to CA dept of Managed Health care but that is my best on California on ethics and codes. I do not have my health and life liscense in California so not up on the Codes and regulations
