HELP!!!!

I have no clue where to turn to any more! I was with a company a few years ago that I had insurance through and tried to get approved for the surgery and was told I didn't meet the qualifications at 211lbs (5'2) and there was no rider on my insurance. Then I made a decision of a life time and took a chance in owning my own business so we went on my husbands insurance through his work still no rider and if we could get approved individually it would cost us $1500 extra month for that rider(unbelievable). So now a student (business did not make it through the downfall of the economy, bakeries tend to be a want not a necessity) at 240lbs still 5'2 (couldn't grow anymore but tried)I have tried talking to our insurance company to see what we can do, I have talk to my husbands job to see if we could add the rider, I have applied to 3 different insurance companies and been denied because of our weight, and talk to another that said we will not be able to find one most likely till we lose weight.I am tired all the time, have irregular cycles,my legs are constantly sore especially when I exercise, I have constant heartburn whether I eat or not that keeps me up at night, I do not sleep well have tried going back on weigh****chers, and watching what I eat, I have become depressed about my weight that I do not even want my husband of 13 years to see me naked because I have become so big, I'm afraid of going out with him because I might embarrass him and every time I just look down and see my stomach I cry! We had to move back in with my grandparents because of our choice of opening a business.I was not getting a check and when we slowed down it got worse so we lost the house and then had to close the business because it was not holding it's own which led us to file bankruptcy. I was already going to school for a business degree to better understand that side of my business so I continue to go to school now and help at an elderly gentleman's house a few days a week plus my grandparents are up in age so we help here a lot also doing things they can not any longer. I can not qualify for a loan because of the bankruptcy and can not afford to pay more than $200 a month for payments and of course the surgery has to be paid in full before I have it. I know that if I could have the surgery and the first 50lbs came off I could start exercising with enjoyment again and would also be eating how I'm suppose to but have no clue where I can turn for help anymore so I can have it done. Does anyone have any idea's? You know I'm not trying to down anyone but I just do not understand how people that pay for their own insurance can be charge outrageously for this rider yet if I was totally broke, and had kids I could get on Medicaid and have the government pay for the surgery. You would think that insurance companies would want to help you lose the weight so that you didn't end up with cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and so on from being overweight. I have a BMI of 43 and know that I can have it done I just need help to pay for it. I'm not asking for a hand out just help so I can have it done soon. As I said I can afford $200.00 a month payments I can even do free advertising by putting a sign on the side of my truck doing free commercials to show before and after, I will work for you in your business and sign over my paycheck, I will sign a contract to state that I will be responsible to pay back. My husband and I are good people and trying to make a difference through our church we attend, we are trying to make our lives better and my weight holds me back on what I can do. I know when I weighed 160lbs I could do so much more I exercised everyday ate right and had more self confidence! Someone please please help me! I pray everyday that God will led me to someone that can help me and this website kept popping up, so I am taking this as a sign from God that someone here can led me where I need to turn for help.

Kim, were you guys able to get on COBRA?

If not, your best bet is to probably find at job that provides insurance via a group plan. Even if you get a part-time job at Home Depot or Target or something....

Group plans are guarantee issue..... and they cannot rider out or exclude any pre-existing conditions.

Otherwise, it's going to be nearly impossible to get insurance if you guys are trying to get single plans. Like you said, they deny you if you don't meet their BMI requirements. They're a business... their goal is to make money, not help people. (Sad, but true).

Anyway, good luck to you. :)

We are on a group plan but they say that they do not cover the surgery. I know they are a business, but insurance is suppose to help you with cost not make you pay more. Maybe I am wrong I never really understood the whole insurance thing anyway(not literally). I talk to a man that is a broker for insurance and he said he can get me this insurance called RBA (Real Benefits Association) that would cover 40 -60% of the insurance and I could afford the payments on the rest if approved but I looked up or tryed to look up this compamy and found nothing on them. Has anyone heard of them. The lady told me they are a PPO provider and to just ask what billing they go through, but that I could cancel this at anytime I wanted to after the surgery and the follow up.Thanks for the input though sunshine86

I got suckered into 4 of them thinking they are legit...put it this way..my Dr. was supposed to be on the Network..well he wouldn't accept the "program" anymore so i have cacelled all of them and am now in the process of group ins.My husband and I are both self-employed,so we will see, tomorrow i get the paperwork done with my accountant then hand it in and go from there. I hope it all goes through ok..if you have a Starbuck's or Home Depot or Target,I also heard that Bank of America has benefits too.I hope all turns out ok for ya!

How did your daughter's appointment go? Have you heard anything from the insurance company on your group insurance? I was approved for $12,0000 for the surgery and now I'm just praying that the guy I spoke with was truthful about this supplement insurance. I think he is I really gave him a hard time on finding out information for me and even went as far as telling him I wanted it and then backed out, but when we got the loan it was for exactly the most we would need if the insurance only paid 40% instead on 60% so I talked to my husband again and he said go for it. The only bad thing is it doesn't start till July 15th but God likes to see how patient we are and that is not a virtue of mine. Well I hope all is going well there fill me in.I am still praying that the right policy will come to you and your family! KIM

Hey Kim,(Love your name..LOL)!
Her appointment went good..I am going to self pay the 4500.The dentist is working with me,thank you for your prayers, they don't usually do that for ppl.I did sign onto Emblem HSA(health savings account). This is a group policy because I and my hubby are self-employed.It starts June 15th! YAY! I can get the ball rolling.I am so excited for you! 12000! YAY! I hope that guy with the supplemental ins. benefits is on the up and up too! I just have bad judgement when it comes to that stuff! As long as you Dr. is in their "plan" it will work..my problem was they weren't in their "plan" even though the benefit ppl said they were.So I was decieved.I lost about 500. all in all.I guess it could've been worse! Well Kim..I am so happy for you! And THANKS for your prayers!! I will keep you and yours in mine too!TTYSoon...Kim
