VSG Denied by Insurance

Ok everyone I was denied because this procedure is not covered by my insurance. Well, I am debating on whether to fight this or just request the procedure that I know is covered for sure.... oh well...Honestly, I don't care which procedure they do because I just want to start losing weight rather than my mind! I am willing to have the RNY because I know it's covered and I can probably be done with losing weight by the time this fight is over....What are some of the opinions of those of you that would prefer VSG over RNY and vise versa?

Hi. I am going through the same thing. I have Anthem BCBS of CA and they denied VSG due to investigational. Honestly, if you're not picky about your surgery, go with the one that's covered. I am fighting for the VSG and it's a long and hard battle. I have been denied 3 times by them and am still going through the California Dept. of Insurance, and it's not sounding like they will revers my insurance company's decision to deny me from what others on this forum are saying.. I personally do not want the RNY or the Lap Band (both are covered) so I think you should go with that's covered. Do your research though so you know what your surgery will be like and what you will have to go through. Go to the other forums pertaining to the surgery you pick and do the research. Good luck!

Thank you for your honest opinion. Both my mom and sister had RNY and have lost lots of weight and haven't had any bad side affects. I am going to stil appeal pending if they deny me for the RNY but according to Managed care it's only the type of procedure that's being denied

My insurance did not cover VSG and I was denied twice but then had it overturned through some appeals. It took me about 3 months..well worth the wait in my opinion to be satisfied with my surgery choice. I love my sleeve.
