I'm thinking about doing a self pay and want to get a good idea of how much I'll need. The dr I'm looking at charges roughly $15k for the lapband- is that for the entire start to finish or just the surgery? If you went 100% self pay roughly what did you spend, what surgery, etc? Thanks!

BTW- I'm not interested in going  outside of the USA...

$12500 total price for lap band includes surgeon, band, hospital, anesthesiologist, nutritional eval, psych eval, fills for a year.  If your insurance doesn't cover pre-op medical tests, an additional $500-1000, but most insurance will cover the med tests.

I had GBS and it cost 21k that includes  bliss for 2 months for major problems, one year of doctor visits but the lady there did tell me they would not turn me away if I had no money to pay them if I needed to be seen. It encluded everything for that cost. I also opted for an extra $150 for four visits with the nut.

I do now that being slef pay if I would have went with the band after the one year of free fills I would have to pay for any fills after that and they cost around $300 per fill!

My doctor was Dr Burhop surgery done out of Elmbrook memorial hos. in Brookfield WI.

$9950 all included. Three months of follow up. FIlls are $15 after that. Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. There are others around the country who are doing it for the same price level, you just have to search for them and research them for quality. Even with travel, it's thousands cheaper than here and I don't want to go to Mexico.

Including hospital stay, doctor bill, and follow up appointments, pre-op appointment, my open gastric bypass cost me $18,900.  Good luck hon.  It's heart breaking to pay it out of your own wallet, especially when you don't have a full time job like me, but its well worth it.... I tell myself every day would you rather this money go towards this, or would you rather it go towards your diabetis medicine, or your high cholesteral screenings, or your sleep apnea tests... etc.  I would much rather have this money go towars improving my life insteading of preventing all the diseases.  Good luck hon
