Hope all is well! And to all the Mother's ~ Happy Mother's Day~

I was notified from my surgeons office that I would need a support / clearance letter from my PCP that is req'd by my insurance company Aetna. I have only seen this PCP since my interest in WLS knowing I would need to, so this year. I guess my question is here do you think this will be a problem not having history with this doctor? Any advice will be grateful.  I have seen my OB Doctor, Spine Docotor and nutrionist etc.. and have all the documentation for weight history needed but they are requesting from my PCP. And I know with Aetna they require a 3 month regiman with a registered dietician and PCP and wasn't sure if I got this support letter from a different doctor if that would raise a red flag???

Just ask your PCP,  you might be surprised by his/ her response. Better yet, write the letter yourself and bring it into your PCP and have them sign it. If they won't or they are against WLS find a new PCP. I'm sure someone on here will have a sample letter you can use. I don't think you have to be with a doctor for any certain period of time before they'll provide you a letter. I know I was with one for over a year and she refused to help me, I got a new PCP and she wrote me a letter/ referred me for WLS after just one visit. You never know until you try. All they can do is say no. PS you don't have to have the 3 month diet with your current PCP, I think it only has to be within a year that you've done the "supervised diet". If you completed it with another doctor withing the last year, go and get the records from that office and  have your surgeon submit them. Best of luck
