hiya momma of two:

lets begin with a few questions.

Does your state have a health insurance plan for residents?
Some states have insurance for low income families
Are you on any type of public assistance such as medicare or medicade?
In some states medicade and medicare pay for wls if it is deemed a medical neccesity.
my suggestion is to do some research on these topics and go from there.

I am willing to help any way  I can

hugs

Hi Lori,
Thank you for your response. I can use any help I can get!
Yes, we are on State insurance called PCN for low income families. And yes, I have jumped through their hoops to get surgery done through them such as complete a 1 year supervised diet and so forth.
This is the problem with my state insurance which I have posted about before and no one on OH can seem to understand just how strict they are and what they want to approve surgery.
One of the requirements for surgery is that if you do not currently have diabeties or some other obesity- related desiese......YOU MUST HAVE AN ON GOING RECORD OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE which I do not have. They don't want just one or two accounts of high blood pressure, they want an REPEATED problem with high blood pressure.
It does not matter how high my BMI is or any other pain I have and I do not have sleep apnea, I've already been tested for it.
That is what they require and I know this for sure because they have mailed me the requirements and I have also spoken with the person who denied my first claim for WLS.
I do have high cholestorol, but that is not enough, I have to have both High Cholestorol AND high BLOOD PRESSURE.
So that right there is what is holding me up from being able to get surgery done that way.

Don't want to discourage you from getting surgery, but did you know you are "uninsurable" for individual/private insurance after weight loss surgery?  I think they should have to tell you this.  I had lap-band and now I cannot get any kind of health insurance.

Check out  WWW.BLIS.com. You will have to read the entire site to get what they are about. Especially look at the BLIS Financing  page. You would have to have a BLISS affiliated surgeon but that might be easier than you think. Good luck. I am presently fighting my insurance exclusion clause with the help of Walter Lindstrom at WWW.ObesityLaw.com. He says sometimes thaw wording of your policy makes all the difference. he can look at you plan and tell you if he thinks he can win an appeal ff or you. He is very flexible with payment plans for his fee. Good luck!

I went to this website and I didn't see anything that even remotely looked like it pertained to WLS. I am referring to the www.blis.com. I didn't see any financing page either. Has the website gone down or what is going on with it? Thanks.

I'm in the same situation you are, mama_of_two.  I don't have insurance and my state doesn't offer any assistance because I'm single and have no children.  My mother and father both co-signed my loan applications, but it still wasn't good enough to get an approved loan.  The best they could tell me was "wait 6 months and try again" at the surgeon's office!

I'm not giving up, and I hope you don't either.  Family members have tried to talk me into going to mexico for discounted surgery, but I did all my homework to get to the point that I chose the right surgeon for me and I'm not one to negotiate after I make up my mind.  I feel like I've hit a brick wall, but I'm not turning around yet.
