Does Federal BCBS cover VSG as of 2009??

I am thinking that I would really like to have the sleeve rather than RNY.  Just a matter of choice, and probably better for me since I'm anemic to start.  Anyway, has anyone been approved this year for VSG and what requirements did you have to meet?

I am a fed that currently has SAMBA which uses CIGNA as their provider.  When I met with my selected surgeon last week she said it was a shame I did not have federal BCBS, she has had several VSG patients approved under BCBS fed.  Unless Cigna changes their policy which is slated for revamp on the 15th of this month, then I will either have to self pay or delay surgery until next year and switch to another insurer during open season (probably BCBS). Another thing one of her staff said is that many insures this year have raised the BMI requirement to at least 50 for VSG approval.  anyway - good luck with whatever route you take.

Keep your fingers crossed. I am a fed bcbs and 3 days before the surgery they canceled me. The last thing I would do is jump ship until you are sure who approves the vsg. Mine is bcbs Fed and now I find out there are 2 parts to it. One side said sure..fine then the other refused to approve as it was experimental???
If anyone has a Dr's office the is getting the vsg approved PLEASE let me know so I can get with the DR. Name and phone I will go to any proven approved hospital.
Thanks
Tim
