I'm having a terrible time wading through all the information available EVERYwhere on Bariatric Surgery and insurance issues....I mean I LOVE the fact that there's so much out there, but my mind is starting to shut down and I still haven't found my answers...  I have Anthem BC insurance for CT State Workers. My husband is a retired state worker and insurance was part of our package.  I saw this insurance mentioned a few times on a WLC website, but could never get to the person to ask them how it went, and how much the insurance paid.
I'd like to consider the surgery, but we have NO money and are not likely to get any.
Could someone tell me the easiest place to go to get basic questions answered..particulary financial at this point.
Thanks.

First you need to call your insurance company and see if your policy covers WLS.  If they do, you should be able to get a list of requirements needed for approval.  Many BC plans require a 6 month supervised diet.

I was able to access my policy manual online and get a print out of the requirements.

I have Anthem and my policy covers it, and if you are seriously considering WLS, call Anthem first and get a health advocate assigned to your case, they will guide you through every step Anthem requires and call and check up on you through out the process.  My health advocate is GREAT!!!  She always calls me back within the day I call her and is super, she answers every question I have and if she doesn't know, she finds out!
