The waiting is driving me NUTS!
My information was submitted to my insurance last week (United Healthcare Choice Plus - Self insured plan) and the waiting to hear if approved or denied is driving me insane.
I had a lap band a few years ago which worked well for a while but I have since developed severe GERD with ulceration and erosion of my esophagus as well as a large hiatal hernia. My surgeon wants to remove the lapband, fix the hernia and convert to RnY for medical reasons to correct the GERD.
I am on pins and needles waiting to see if it will be approved. How long did it take for everyone to hear back from their insurance company?

I called my insurance company just about every day once my info was submitted. Be polite - don't sound frustrated or annoyed - and don't be afraid to call and ask about the status of your pre-certification case.
Thank you both for your suggestions! I listened to your advice and am certainly glad I did.... I called the insurance today to inquire and was told that "my case was canceled due to missing clinicals" I am not sure what that means but I have sent an email to both the doctor and the insurance coordinator.
Thankfully I called, or I would have been politely waiting for nothing!! I appreciate your responses and support!
Hi There!
Well after a week of wasted time, it appears that the clinical information that my doctor's office submitted was not routed correctly within the insurance company, thus my case was canceled. It was resubmitted on Thursday and I called on Friday to confirm that they had everything they needed and was told that they did.
So, the waiting continues. I'll let you know when I get a final determination. Keep your fingers crossed for me!!
