I hope someone has been through this..

I called my insurance company prior to even thinking about going through this process. They said with meeting the right requirements you should be completely covered for the surgery. I then started the process, met my surgeon, went to the seminar, etc.

So today I call just to clarify somethings to get the news that they will only be covering $10,000 of the surgery :( has this happened to anyone before? Or something similiar and did you find a way to get it completely covered??

I called my surgeons assistant and she said that the surgery is about $40,000. So I'm just really discouraged at the moment. I don't even know how to feel, what to think, etc.

I know this isn't the worst problem for people but I'm just lost on what other options are. :(

Hi Tashibaby,

It can definitely be frustrating and irritating at this point in the process. It almost like you must make a list of detailed questions to ask the insurance company. If you dont mind me asking, which insurance are you experiencing this with?

What surgery are you planning on having??!! I've never heard of any of them costing anywhere near $40k.

I'd see about finding another surgeon.... I'm sure you can find a good surgeon who'll do it for between $12-18k. (Those were the rates I got from 4 or 5 different surgeons in the area for the lap-band)

Good luck :)
