Nurse from United Health Care Called
So today I get a call from the nurse assigned to my case for my surgery. I had talked to her back 6 months ago when she told me I would have to have a six month weight supervised diet plan. Today she called and wanted to know where I was in my plan and if I was ready to submit my paper work. I told her yes that I was about to get ready. She was so nice that I felt strange like ok what are you up to casue you act like you want this to happen for me. She did ask me if I was exercising which I thought was strange. Then she told me she did not need a 5 year history of showing I was obese. Just wanted clearance from heart and lung dr and my 6 month diet with the dr. Then she said ok get this to me and I can get you a approval. Now I think that is really just strange???
What do you think? I was shocked that she did not need gobs of stuff like I figured she would want. Just the basic to get approved.

This is pretty much what I have experienced. I am only 4 months in but they called at 4 months to check in. They are quick to answer questions and she said she didn't see any reason for her not to approve it within a day or two once all the documentation is together. They seem great so far. Almost too good to be true
Hi There! Can you keep me posted on what happens with UHC? I have contacted them but I never received a nurse assigned to my case. How did you get the nurse? Do I need to aks for a certain department when I call. I have the same requirements as you and it would be good if I do not have to submit the 5 year history. I really want my surgey by the summer. I still have 4 more months to go on my diet.
I have UHC too. I called and asked it WLS was covered and they sent me to another department within UHC that strictly deals with WLS. I too have a nurse case manager. I was approved within 48 hours which was AWESOME. The only thing now is that I'm opting for the sleeve and I called to see if they cover it and she told me no, it's not yet approved by NIH. However, my surgeon wants to try and then appeal if denied. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. UHC has a 48 hour turn around time for approval/denials. All you needed to qualify is a BMI over 40 and 6 month wieght history with you PCP. Good luck with eveyrthing. I have current posts too to see if other people had issues with getting the sleeve approved.
I called to see what was covered on my policy and that is when the nurse called me back. I did not have to contact them anymore as they did the work for me.
As for the clause there was no clause in this insurance policy but the policy I had before this job did have a clause and it kept me from getting my surgery. But it was the employee that had the clause not UHC..
I am planning to have the Gastric Bi-pass.
Just find it very strange that the nurse was so friendly to me makes me think something is up. LOL
