Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are self employed and we both have Anthenm BC BS Individual Blue Access PPO policies.  They have an exclusion to WLS in the policy.  Do I have any chance of getting coverage?

Thanks!

I have BCBS PPO and our company has an exclusion that says no matter what the diagnosis is, no WLS coverage. So, no hope. Check the language of your policy, there may be an exception. You can also check with the local WLS surgeons. They have probably worked with your insurance and might be able to tell you. Mine just said, nope, no way around it.

I have massive GERD and this is my only choice, other than drugs, which don't work, at this point or any foreseeable point. They will only cover one surgery, nissen fundiplication, which won't work for me. So, out of pocket it is. I am going out of state, but close, which is saving me over $4,000. There is all kinds of financing. I had to get creative, but I really want my life back.

I wish you good luck!

Thanks for the reply.  I've been looking into self pay already.  I assumed that was my only option.  I wish you the best!

Erin sorry to say individual policy will never have WLS coverage and Anthem for sure does not have riders for WLS  sorry more than likely you will have to be self pay
