I don't quite understand how it works.  If my understanding is correct, it's like an insurace policy that will cover complications from WLS for self-pay patients...right?  I've been reviewing thier website, but I just don't understand it.

I find their web site very confusing as well, and I've emailed them twice and have received nothing in response.   Hopefully some one will be able to shed some light on how they work.

I know that when self-payers use my doctor (I'm insurance) BLIS is included in the cost and it covers for so many days depending on what type of complication you have and depending on the specific surgery. Usually the time frame for a particular surgery and complications they cover range from 30-90 days. Supposedly any complication you would have due to the surgery itself would happen in that time frame.  When you are looking for a surgeon, ask your doctor if the self pay price includes blis.

Hope this helps. Best of luck

BLIS is insurance that is offered for self pay. I got the following information from my local surgeon. Doctors must be approved by BLIS to have the insurance, so not everyone has it. The insurance comes in three levels, all at different costs.

The lowest level (basic) is included in the surgeons costs ($4,828 in this case), so I am not sure how much the insurance actually costs. Complication protection for 30 days including: bldding, Infection, leak, perforation.

Median level (Gold) costs an additional $1,183 and includes the above, plus complication protection for 12 months: band erosion, band slip, port site problems.

High level (Platinum) costs an additional $1,479 to the basic level and ups the coverage to 18 months.

Restrictions do apply, of course. And complications are up to the surgeon to decide.

Thanks.  I think I understand now...approved surgeons only & it should be included in their self pay price.  At least that's what I've been getting from talking with different surgeons,

Thanks for the help!
