Slowly, I'm making some progress!  Some may remember I was having trouble proving my weight for the last 2 years as required by Aetna.  Well, I received my records from a pre-employment physical I did back in 2001 and it had me right at BMI of 35.0.  JACKPOT!  They have my height wrong on it, 5 foot 4 instead of my actual height of 5 foot 3, but I figure as long as my surgeon's office measures me and verifies my height - no problem.  As added touch, the doctor herself only wrote two words on the form...the word "obese" twice under "general appearance."

My question is...if my BMI is now 40 do I still have to prove co-morbidities since my previous weights are below 40?  Any opinions/experience?

I went ahead sent my info to the surgeon's office  to get a consultation over a week ago.  Haven't heard back yet.  I'm sure they would know but until then I'd like to hear what you think.

Thanks,
Kathy

I cant say for Aetna because I have United Health Care, however I had a similar situation. I had a BMI of 35-39.9 for the past 4 years, but was only diagnosed with a co-morbid 2 years ago. My Dr's office insurance coordinater was sure I would be denied because of this. And I was getting prepared to fight it, however yesterday I got my approval on the first request. I am so excited!

I hope this will bring you some encouragement Good Luck!
