BC/BS-FEP-- Coinsurance Question

I am sure that you know this but do everything to make sure that your anesthesia group is in network because BCBS Fed Standard (which I have) changed this year for surgery that is elective. If they are out of network you will pay 100% up to $800.00. I know you are going to a blue distinction center but don't assume anything. I wanted to originally go with another surgeon who works for the same hospital group but in a different location and the hospital where he operates did not have in network anesthesia.

Your insurance pays for program fees other than nutritionists and psych evals? Mine does not lucky you if they do. Once you achieve your deductible of $600.00 the tests will be very little. I met mine but my husband has not but he's almost there. I think another $100.00 and we are done.

The best of luck to the both of you.

the insurance does not cover the program fees but it does cover psych evals but ours are part of the program fees so i'm not sure how that will work.

I CANNOT get an answer about the anesthesia and that always hurts us.

Mine were also a part of my program fee and my DH decided it was not worth filing a claim and all of the going back and forth.

Yes you can get that answer about anesthesia. I called the hospital directly and asked them for the anesthesia department and they gave me their name and telephone number since their offices were not located in the hospital. If you have any trouble then the next person I would talk to is the billing department. Just explain to them that you are checking to see if they participate with your insurance. The surgeon's office where I originally wanted to go was of no help at all and it took me calling all over that hospital to find out that they were not in network. So when I chose my surgeon I learned to just call the hospital directly and they gave me the information with no problem.

I paid more out of pocket because of situations like this and boy have we learned our lesson. When it's an emergency what can you do. I have chronic asthma and with another insurance Coventry through Mail Handlers we paid out of pocket for emergency room doctors and radiology every time I had an attack because they were not in network. We were under the assumption that if the hospital was in network so was everyone else. Wrong big time because they could care less that it was an emergency and you have no choice.

I will PM you I have another idea.

i got the message.

i really know that we always have gotten hammered with the anesthesia.  sometimes I think the anesthesiologist is in ca-hoots with the docs and are not in network so they can get more money.   we do have two other hospitals we could switch to but then we would have to switch doctors.  i will call the doctors office on Monday and discuss that if we don't use a preferred provider for the anesthesia we will have to switch hospitals and doctors...

sadly he's so busy I doubt he will care.

UPDATE:

spoke to the surgeon's office who said that both FEP (THIS YEAR) and selfpays  are NOT billed seperately by the  anesthesia department.   at ST. Agnes it's part of the hospital bill!
