I'M APPROVED (BCBS MICHIGAN)

 HAD INITIAL APPT W/BARIATRIC SURGEON 08/08. BEGAN BCBSM'S REQUIRED 6 MONTH'S OF PHYSICIAN-SUPERVISED WEIGHT MANAGEMENT THAT SAME WEEK. FINISHED 6 MONTH'S ON 02/13/09. HAD RECORDS SENT TO SURGEON. HAD PSYCH EVAL ON 02/25/09. HEARD FROM SURGEON YESTERDAY (3/6/09) THAT I'M APPROVED FOR "BOARDING". I WAS SO EXCITED, I FORGOT TO ASK WHAT BOARDING IS ??

Congrats!!! What surgery are you planning on?

I am having the RNY.  I did a lot of research.  Plus, my sis-in-law is almost 5 yr out from RNY and has not only maintained her weight loss (115#) but has actually lost 6# over the past month to get ready for her Florida vacation.  And my husband is almost 3 yr out.  He lost 105# and is almost 3 wk postop from his tummy tuck where he lost another 15#.  My surg date can't come quick enough . . .

Oh my goodness this is great news for you! How exciting! This is the same insurance I have. Yay!!!! I am not sure what boarding is.... good luck.

I was wondering bc I was also boarded and I was a little leery bc I was not sure if BCBSM had actually approved the surgery, so I guess if my surgeon boarded me I must b ok.  I think I am just being paranoid I keep having dreams of being all ready to go in and having them tell me my ins changed their minds!

my hubs had RNY almost 3 yrs ago and we were told then that their office has "pre-authorization" arrangement with BCBSM. I didn't understand it at the time, but his surg was covered. So I'm not going to worry about mine.
