Primary Insurance VS Secondary Insurance

I have United Health from my husbands employer. That plan doesn't cover any type of weight loss surgery, it is an exclusion. My employer switched their coverage to BC BS and weight loss surgery is covered. So of course I picked it up during open enrollment. My surgeons is putting the claim in on Monday for the RNY. I'm freaking out because  someone asked me which one is my primary plan. I have no idea. I would imagine it would be the BC BS I get from my employer. I'm scared  BC BS is going to deny me because I still have UHC. Will BC BS even know I still have UHC? Can they deny me? Anybody got a clue? I thought i was over all these insurance hang ups. Am I over reacting?

Your insurance, the BCBS, should be your primary. Even if they say your UHC is primary, the secondary should pay since they don't have an exclusion.

Jonnalee your insurance will always be primary on you and your spouses secondary, however regarding any dependent children they go by the birthday rule, whoevers birthday is first would be primary on the children.     UHC doesnt even need to be imvolved with you getting approved with BCBS for WLS.  If they have an exclusion then you will work strictly with BCBS  they can not deny you because you have UHC as secondary
