does Medi-Cal cover gastirc bypass or lapband?
Hello, I was curious to what medi-cal would cover.. I currently live in oklahoma and was on soonercare untill I started recieving child support for my only child. A week after getting it, the state cut me off of insurance, but still cover my daughter..They say I get too much child support to qualify for state insurance. 625.00 is too much?? No I thought child support was for my child not for ME... Anyhow to make a long story short, while being covered by soonercare my doctor agreed that I need gastric bypass and was going to back me up.. I went on a diet and lost 17 lbs in 5 weeks with just taking my daughter to the pool and swimming all day.. I was happy and feeling better.Bad news came and I wasnt covered any longer so I gave up.. I have struggled with my weight for all my life.I am 29 now. My best friend lives in southern california and wants my daughter and I to move there so I can apply for medi-cal, she says more than likely I can get approved. I just want to know if they cover wls.. Does anyone know???
Straight Medi-Cal is when you do not have to choose an insurance provider. It varies from county to county, but here in Sacramento you must choose a provider unless you have a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or pregnancy for instance. It makes it much harder to get bariatric surgery if you have to choose a provider. And each provider is different in what they cover and don't cover. If you're not working right now, you would definitely qualify for medi-cal (provided you don't own property and your daughter is under 18) in one form or another.
