x-post Denial of revision
I received an initial denial for my RNY less than 24 hours from my scheduled surgery by Keystone Healthplan East [ Independence Blue Cross HMO] - upset doesn't even cover how i was feeling. My understanding is that I was denied because its a second bariatric procedure - even though the first was 22 years ago- neither they nor any of their affiliates paid for it and I have documented technical failure -on top of a high BMI. The way I read their bariatric surgery policy and how they are reading it seem to be different. I have appealed and I understand my surgeon's office is appealing too. Anybody else go through this?
I just wanted to say how sorry I am, and that I HOPE the appeal works! It seems ridiculous to deny you JUST based on the fact that it is a revision. Seems they should look into it more to me. I hope you WIN!
I am just in the VERY beginning process of requesting a revision, so I can't offer any insight, just my well wishes!

Oh my, Oh my, Oh my!!! Please let me catch my breath!!!
My surgeon told me that he was pretty sure that my BC/BS FEP, will not cover my revision surgery to RNY!! He sounded 100% sure!! So he had my paper work admitted fast. I thought he was mistaken.. I see so many people here getting approved for revisions who only a few years out!! How can that be????
He said this is going to be a long hard fight!!!! I am so upset now! My stomach stapling surgery was 17 years ago... I did not have BC/BS back then either..
My staple line came open. My surgery failed me. I did not fail the surgery...I was told this by 2 different surgeons. I have 2 hernias and a lot of scar tissues, and adhesion's too...I have to have Open surgery.
One thing that may help me is that I really fought to keep the weight from coming back on. I only gained about 30-33 pounds back. I got down to 210, I am now at 243 pounds. I will let you know what happens...You can PM me any time...If I forget to get back to you...Alizka
