Insurance question

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get an answer from my insurance company if this cover this procedure.  Does anyone have Highmark Blue Shield Classic Blue Comprehensive insurance?

I have a feeling they will not cover this.  Before I go through the evaluation and get my hopes up, I want to be sure this is covered

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Have a great Thursday!

Hi - I think it has more to do with what your company policy has in place.  Blue Cross typically has WLS policies, but your company may specifically exclude it. You should check your policy documents and can also call customer service.  It should be pretty straightforward to find out.

good luck!

Hi, thanks for answering.  I'm self-employed so it's private insurance.  I have a call into my insurance company, but they keep telling me they need to research it.  Geesh, how long does something like this take to research.  It's been two days now.  I'm going to call them back, someone there should be able to help me get an answer.

Have a nice day!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have NEVER heard of a private policy that would cover WLS.

Hi, thanks for answering.  I have a feeling they are not going to cover, but I'm still trying to find out exactly what the coverage is.  I do know it's Highmark Blue Shield Classic Blue Comprehensive.  Their computers were down today and they said to call tomorrow.

I feel this is a medical necessity since I'm having bad side effects from my meds and stopped taking them, which is dangerous.  My follow up appt is next week with my PCP, so I'll discuss all of this with her too at that time.  Meanwhile, I'm trying desperately to find out if it's covered under the guidelines of my policy.

Thanks again for answering.
