If you want to do the 3-month plan, most surgeons' offices have a program you can do through them.
For me, there was NO CHANCE I was waiting until my consultation to get things rolling! I scheduled my consultation in August, and the soonest they could get me in was October 27! I had actually already started my supervised diet anyway. I did my diet from July through December (my insurance at the time required the 6 months, so I didn't have the 3-month option).

My surgeon's office didn't coordinate my pre-op requirements. Aetna doesn't require the surgeon's office to do so, so you don't have to wait on your consultation. Good luck. :)

I am still awaiting a decision from the appeal sent in.
I called today to inquire about it and was told to call back end of next week when the decision deadline was to find out the outcome. Now I am freaking out why it seems to be taking them longer to review mine that what seems others have.
I already have heart & lung clearance, have met with the surgeon, psych eval, etc etc I am just waiting on someone to read a file. There are no more hoops for me to jump through.

OMG, this must be driving you crazy!!! Hang in there. I wonder what is taking so long? when I sent in my appeal, I had called the Appeal Dept (the 800 number was given on the denial letter) asking them to expidite it. The lady called me back and said we only expidite if it is a life/death situation but she said it would not take very long at all. And that was on a Thursday and I got the phone call the next Tuesday saying I was approved.
I wonder what is taking so long????
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!! Keep me posted.

Many surgeons' offices have a program for the 3-month requirement. If you try to do it on your own, I believe you must see a nutritionist, exercise specialist, and possibly also your PCP and a counselor. For the 6-month requirement, you only have to see your PCP once a month.

All Aetna plans have the same requirements for WLS pre-approval. The only difference amongst Aetna plans is if your employer has not included the WLS rider, in which case, your insurance won't cover ANY WLS.
