I'm so happy....I got a call from Aetna today...I've been approved!!   They were great. I had no problems with Aetna at all.

Thanks to some great people here on this forum, I had all the my documentation complete and exactly what Aetna required.

Wow that's great. Since you all got approved by aetna do you know since I'm doing the three month thing with them if just seeing my regular doctor will be enough or will I also have to see a dietician and nutritionist too?

if you are doing the three month thing multidisciplinary thing, you have to do more than just go to your PCP.  You have to see a nutritionalist and and exercise specialist.  You basically have to meet the criteria which requirest you to
a) consult with a dietician or nutritionist
b) reduced-calorie diet program supervised by dietician
c) exercise regimen, supervised by exercise therapist or other qualified professional
d) behavior modification program supervised by qualified professional and
e) documentation in the medical record of the member's participation in the multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen at each visit.

If you don't see a dieticien, exercise specialists, and incorporate behavior modification, you need to do the 6 month physician supervised  nutrition & exercise program.

look for a woman named bama mom on the alabama board.  she emailed me copies of everything.  i only went to my pcp, and in my letters i told them i was going to the gym and using oh.com as my behavior modification as a support group.  i was approved within ten days.  if you like email me, and ill type up the copies i sent to aetna and you can modify them to what you did.

Jynxxx - she's right - email her b/c she sent me the letters and I could not have done it withouth those letters!  Once I had that info, I knew exactly what Aetna was looking for.  I owe my approval to Bama.Mom's help!!

Congratulations!   I'm very happy for you that Aetna came thru on this.  I am an Aetna retiree and my Aetna insurance specifically excludes weight loss surgery.  Did your plan allow weight loss surgery under certain conditions or were you able to overturn an exclusion?  Just wondering.
