Tricare lightweight
Hey guys long story short...I'm a tricare lightweight.
i'm 5'2 and weighed 229 at the consult and 224 at myt primary last week...I have no co morbs and have a sleep test on monday....
i'm done with all my work and now after the sleep study submit for approval...I'm getting nervous about approvals and I am wondering if their are any other light weights out there who got approved...
I'm in the north region...and on standard because its easier that way due to my husbands orders....we keep having interuptions so instead of fighting when i had prime when i didin't we just went to standard...
so ya any news would be appreciated

definitely let me know what you get back about this topic, because i believe i'd fall into the same category as you. I'm 5'3" and weighed 230 at consult with no real co-morbids, but i did complain about a few things hoping that maybe they would use them as co-morbids. i didn't have to do the sleep study, but i finished everything else. my problem is that my hubby got out and my insurance stopped as of jan 9th. i applied for the cobra, and tried to call them this week to pay the premium but they are closed due to the inclement weather.
This is so frustrating, and i'll be completely devastated if i pay this $2000 and they don't approve me. our new insurance doesn't start until march 1st, and it does not cover any type of WLS.

Hi! My name is Stacey and I'm also in the North region in NH. I am 5'3" and when I started was 231 lbs. My PCM referred me for GB last May. I've been going through a great program for ten months which requires you to lose 10% of your weight before surgery. Well after 10 months I finally finished all the requirements and was waiting on Tricare approval. Got a call yesterday that I was denied because I don't have any co-morbidities. I was wondering if your sleep study said you had sleep apnea and that's why you got approved or if you got approved without that?? I am definitely going to appeal and maby ask for a sleep study but I was wondering what you did if anything to get approval. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hey-
I'm sure you know this by now but Tricare does not go by BMI at all they go by the Metropolitan weight chart based on your height
here it is
when I went to my consult I weight 230 ish. THey put me in as 5'1 because technically i am 5' 4.5 inches so they rounded down.
Since I have no co morbs they take you weight off the chart take the smaller number times it by two and if you are more than that weight you are approved. The problem is they assume everyone is medium build. The have to state that you are small build in the letter they write. So for me a 5'1 person should weight 106 and since I weighed 230 at the consult I was over 200% my body weight and therefore i was approved.
So here is my thought...did they submit your paperwork with your weight post the 10% you lost or pre because if it was post than if my math is right they submitted your weight as 208 and with your height of 5'3 you need to be at least 222 to be 200% your body weight to get approved.
I did not have sleep apnea or any co morbs...
please message me any time and good luck

Hey!! I can't remember if I wrote you back or not, so if I did already, I apologize for two e-mails. Okay so thanks, I had no idea they used that chart. According to the chart if I'm a small frame I would be 200% over. My weight loss surgeon just contacted me and he is so mad at Tricare that he is going to write an appeal for me. I will definitely have him state that I am a small frame just to be on the safe side. I haven't gotten my actual denial letter in the mail yet so I don't know what it says. The woman on the phone said I got denied because I had no co-morbids. But that all goes out the window if I'm categorized as small frame. I'm hoping that an appeal from myself and my surgeon will be enough to reverse the denial. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Good luck with your surgery and here's to a speedy recovery. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks so much for your help. I truly appreciate it.
